Message from Chris Hacker, President KLL
Hello KLL Families,
We are now almost two weeks into the season and all of your kids will have had their first practices and games. I'd like to take this time, on behalf of the Board of Kerrisdale Little League, to welcome those players and families who are new to KLL and thank those who are returning for another season of baseball. I'd also like to remind players and parents alike that, along with the fun and enjoyment of playing and watching baseball over the next two months, there is also a necessary level of commitment required.
Many of your teams (especially in the older divisions) will have had team meetings at which you will have been informed by your team's manager and coaches of their expectations. As you all know, little league is a very short and condensed season. For that reason, your child's attendance and commitment are crucial to a successful season for your team. It's expected that all games and practices will be attended. If you or your child have a conflict and are unable to make a game or practice, it's very important that this information is shared with the coaches or manager well in advance. A tremendous amount of time and effort is put into properly preparing for both games and practices so please respect this and have your child on the field and ready to play or practice at the scheduled time.
It is certainly understood that baseball may not be your child's only activity through the Spring however when players regularly fail to attend, it can dramatically affect the cohesiveness, spirit and success of the entire team. I thank you for your continued understanding and support of this commitment to both the players and coaches of your child's team, they really appreciate and need it.
It is also very important to remember that the umpires who will be officiating both the Minor A and Majors regular and post-season games have the ultimate authority on the field of play. They are also someone's kids and need to be shown the respect and support they deserve while they are learning the intricacies of the game.
The Board would also like to express their thanks for your patience in navigating the new online registration system, online medical update service and the online Criminal Record Check. We're really proud to have initiated these changes that we hope will prove to be much more convenient and efficient as the next few years go by. If you haven't already, I'd like to invite you to check out KLL's new website as well. As the season goes on, construction will continue and we hope that you'll find it both informative and easy to navigate.
Information regarding try-outs for our many post-season teams has now gone out and I hope that you'll make a note of the dates and times. KLL is hosting the District 1 9/10 All-star Tournament at the end of June at Elm Park and volunteer information will be provided over the next month.
Finally, I'm hoping that you'll all be able to attend our Opening Day Parade and Ceremony this coming Saturday, April 26th. The parade begins at 10:00 am and will work it's way from Kerrisdale Arena to Elm Park where a brief ceremony will be held at the main diamond. Things should finish just after 11:00 am and will be followed by our featured Major A game with Odlum Brown taking on Pottinger-Gaherty.
Until then, enjoy the games and cheer on not only the players but the coaches, managers and umps as well.
