Come watch some of B.C.’s top Little League all-stars – right in your own backyard!

Little League B.C.’s District 1 tournament – featuring the 11-12 all-stars from Kerrisdale L.L., Dunbar L.L. and Jericho L.L. – will converge on Elm Park for a double-roundrobin tournament starting Friday, July 5.

The top two teams after the roundrobin will play in the district championship game on Saturday, July 13.

The winner advances to the provincial tournament kicking off the following weekend at Little Mountain, and the winner of the provincial tournament represents B.C. at the national championship in Ancaster, Ont., starting Aug. 1. The Canadian winner will play in the Little League World Series (LLWS) in Williamsport, Pa., starting Aug. 15.

“A Little League district all-stars tournament is a wonderful event for players and spectators alike,” says Alistair Sale, KLL VP. “Win or lose, the memories made are special and long-lasting."

Teams from the Greater Vancouver area have represented Canada at the LLWS five straight seasons –Whalley is the defending Canadian champion and a six-time LLWS participant – and B.C. teams have represented Canada in Pennsylvania in all but one season since 2005.

Neither Kerrisdale, Dunbar nor Jericho have ever been to the big show. Kerrisdale last represented District 1 at the provincials in 2016, and fell just short to Little Mountain in last year’s district tournament at Dunbar.

The district schedule (all games at Elm Park, corner of Elm Street and 41st Avenue):

Friday July 5: Dunbar vs. Jericho, 6 pm
Saturday July 6: Opening ceremony, 11 a.m.; Kerrisdale vs. Dunbar, noon
